The Community of Hot Springs Village
America's Largest Gated Community
Since it's founding in 1970, Hot Springs Village has been one of the most highly sought after communities in Arkansas, especially for retirees and families. Nestled in the Ouachita Mountains, the Village offers homeowners an absolutely stunning setting to live work and play.
Hot Springs Village is located 15 miles north of Hot Springs, and is the largest gated community in the country, encompassing more than 26,000 acres. Low taxes and the average home costing less than $100/sf the community is surprisingly affordable. When combined with the access to amenities in the community, and a short distance from both Hot Springs and the Little Rock Metropolitan Area, the Village is perfectly located.
A picturesque setting in the beautiful Ouachita Mountains, the 26,000 acres that make up the community has 11 recreational lakes, 9 golf courses with 171 holes, and more than 30 miles of trails. Hot Springs Village is the perfect place for the weekend boater, adventuring hiker, and avid golfer to make their home.
In 1970, real estate developer John A. Cooper chose to take 20,000 acres of land in the Ouachita Mountains and turn it into a retirement community. Modeling the development after two previously successful planned communities, Cherokee Village and Bella Vista, Cooper got to work creating what would become Hot Springs Village. Today many retirees find that the community is a perfect place to call home, though Hot Springs Village is not just a retirement community. Families, couples, and singles of all ages live, work, and play here!
Hot Springs Village falls within the bounds of two public school districts, Fountain Lake School District and Jessieville School District. Students in the Village also have access to ASMSA - Arkansas School for Math, Sciences and Art, which bills itself as Arkansas' Premier Public High School with an average ACT score of 29.9 and mean unweighted GPA of 3.84.
Hot Springs Village boasts more than 200 clubs and organizations for hobbyists, sports enthusiasts, and a wide array of interests that residents may have! In addition to the golfing, lake-life, and hiking trails, the Village is home to the Ponce de Leon Performing Arts Center and Woodlands Auditorium which host live performances throughout the year, the Casa de Carta which hosts a variety of card games up to seven days a week, and the Coronado Community Center and Library.
The close proximity of Hot Springs Village to Hot Springs and Little Rock provides easy access to the two cities with all of their shopping and restaurants. One local favorite spots is the Green Market, where a group of local farmers, bakers, and artisans provide homemade and handcrafted goods as well as fresh food.
