THE COMMUNITY OF WEATHERFORD
Historic community on route 66
Located right off of Interstate 40 in Western Oklahoma, Weatherford is a community with a rich and vibrant history. Home to Southwestern Oklahoma State University, the Stafford Air & Space Museum, and a variety of energy industry leaders, Weatherford is a great place to live.
Nestled on the historic Route 66, Weatherford is full of small town charm and wonderful people. With just over 12,000 residents, and a four year university Weatherford has so much to offer. With a sizable manufacturing and energy industry presence to the city’s two museums, and over 800 acres of parks, there is something for everyone to love.
Speaking of Weatherford’s museums, the Stafford Air & Space Museum is home to many amazing pieces of aerospace history that are sure to marvel even the casual observer. The city also cares about its own local history, with the Oklahoma Heartland of America Museum featuring artifacts from the late 19th - mid 20th century, and three historic themed buildings to explore.
In 1898, Weatherford was officially incorporated as a town, nearly a decade before statehood. The original settlers made a living farming and ranching, growing cash crops like corn and cotton. By the turn of the century a bustling town had been established, and the completion of the Oklahoma and Gulf Railroad brough manufacturing, churches, schools and more to the young community. As of 2020, more than 12,000 people call Weatherford home.
Weatherford Public Schools is the only K-12 school in the city, with three elementary, one middle, and one high school. In addition to Southwestern Oklahoma University, the Western Technology Center is a trade and technical school that offers concurrent enrollment to Weatherford Public School junior and seniors.
Weatherford has something to offer the whole family, including over 800 acres of public parks and two museums. The Stafford Air & Space Museum houses the Gemini 6A spacecraft, to scale replicas of the Wright Flyer and Spirit of St. Louis, and other interesting pieces.
Weatherford offers a fantastic array of local food and boutique shops. Here are a few of our favorites: Rx Brew Coffee & Donuts, Lucille’s Roadhouse, The BBQ Shed, It’s All About Moi (Boutique), Uptown Marketplace & Antiques, In Fine Feather Boutique
